Retail AI consultancy

Retail AI consultancy for UK independent retailers and brands

By James Moorcroft, founder of Niddy. Updated 8 October 2026.

Niddy is a UK AI implementation consultancy for independent retailers and established brands, based in the North East. Niddy's AI Audit costs £1,495 fixed, takes five days with minimal client time, and carries a guarantee: ten times the fee in estimated annual value identified, or the fee back. After the audit, we build one workflow at a time in fixed-fee Sprints of £2,950 per workflow.

What a retail AI consultancy should actually do

Most retailers don't need an AI strategy. They need someone to look at where the hours and the money go each week, and then fix the two or three jobs where AI earns its keep. That's the job we do.

We start with an audit of your own numbers: sales, marketing, stock and admin. The plan that comes out says what to build, what to buy and what to leave alone, and sometimes the honest answer is a tool you already pay for, or doing nothing at all. Then we build one workflow at a time, in your own tools wherever we can, so it keeps working whatever happens.

AI for retailers: where it helps an independent shop

  • The customer service inbox. Drafting replies to the questions you answer every day (where's my order, returns, stock checks), with a person approving every reply before it goes out.
  • Product descriptions and catalogue admin. Writing and tidying product copy at the volume a season needs. Our founder used an AI agent to rewrite more than 600 product descriptions for Shopify in a single season.
  • Stock and reordering. Turning your sales and stock data into a weekly reorder suggestion, so less cash sits in slow lines.
  • The weekly numbers. A plain-English report on what sold, what made money and what didn't, built from the systems you already have.
  • Wholesale and supplier admin. Chasing suppliers, quoting, invoicing and onboarding trade accounts.
  • Marketing that's already paid for. Getting email and CRM tools you own working properly before buying anything new.

What we won't do

  • Let AI email your customers without a person sending it. Any email-connected AI we build is draft-only. Every other agent works within set limits, has a named owner on your side, and is reviewed and updated by us as part of our monthly support.
  • Take a share of your revenue. Every price is a fixed fee.
  • Lock you in. The tools and the work are yours.
  • Touch the plant floor. For manufacturers in the retail supply chain we work on office workflows and read-only reporting over the systems you already have.
  • Sell you a tool we haven't used.

What an audit found for one independent retailer

One independent UK retailer's audit flagged £20,000 to £35,000 a year of marketing spend to stop or redirect, before any AI went in at all. The biggest lever was an email programme the business already had and barely used. Read the case study.

Who we work with

UK independent retailers, established brands selling direct to consumers, and the manufacturers and distributors behind them, usually run by an owner who wants AI to do real work without the jargon. We work across the UK. If you're not in retail but have a team and admin that repeats every week, see AI for businesses outside retail.

Questions we get asked

How much does a retail AI consultant cost?

Ours is fixed fee: the AI Audit is £1,495 and each workflow we build is £2,950. Day rates across the UK market vary widely; our cost guide sets out the published ranges and where they come from.

How long does the audit take?

Five days, with minimal time from you: a kick-off call, access to the systems you already use, and a readout at the end.

Will an AI agent send things to my customers?

Email never goes without a person sending it. Any email-connected AI we build is draft-only. Every other agent works within set limits, has a named owner on your side, and is reviewed and updated by us as part of our monthly support.

Do I need to be technical?

No. The questions are about how your business runs, in plain English. The AI part is our job.

Who does the work?

James Moorcroft, Niddy's founder, leads every project, and continuity cover is written into our Terms of Business.

What if the audit doesn't find enough?

If the plan doesn't identify at least ten times the fee in estimated annual value, you get the fee back.
